Supporting a child with ADHD without turning home into a battleground

Small routine changes and the right kind of praise can make a real difference — for them and for you.
ADHD is not laziness or bad parenting. It is a difference in how the brain manages attention, impulse, and energy — and it affects the whole household, especially during homework and mornings.
Start with one small change rather than overhauling everything. A visual morning checklist, a consistent place for bags and shoes, or five minutes of movement before sitting down can make a noticeable difference.
Praise effort, not just outcomes. Children with ADHD hear a lot of correction. Specific, warm feedback — "you stayed with that puzzle even when it was hard" — builds confidence over time.
